🎄 33 Days to Go: Why Disneyland Nails the Holiday Magic (Even Without a Christmas Party!)

If there’s one thing I wish Disneyland would add to its holiday lineup, it’s a dedicated Christmas party event. I get it—Disneyland isn’t quite as sprawling as Disney World, and maybe that’s why they haven’t introduced one. But still… with the incredible overlays and festive touches they do offer, it feels like a missed opportunity!

Let’s talk overlays. Because honestly, no one does them better than Disneyland. The Nightmare Before Christmas transformation of the Haunted Mansion? I know, I know—I rave about this ALL the time, but come on! It’s the best overlay Disney has ever done. Period. The detail, the whimsy, the perfect blend of spooky and festive—it’s pure magic.

And then there’s It’s a Small World Holiday. If you haven’t seen this ride decked out in its seasonal best, you’re missing out. The lights, the music, the décor—it’s like stepping into a snow globe of joy. It’s impossible not to feel the holiday spirit when you’re surrounded by twinkling lights and cheerful tunes from around the world.
✨ The Icicle Lights: Disneyland’s Sparkling Secret Weapon

Here’s something Disneyland does way better than Disney World: icicle lights. I haven’t seen them yet for 2025 (fingers crossed they’re still part of the magic!), but if Disney decides to retire them, like they did after the 50th Anniversary at Walt Disney World… well, let’s just say we’ll be having words. Those shimmering strands of light are iconic. They transform the park into a winter wonderland and make every photo feel like a postcard.

Even if the icicle lights don’t make an appearance this year, Small World’s façade more than makes up for it. After a two-week closure to install the overlay, Disneyland hosts a countdown event that lights up the night and officially kicks off the Christmas season. It’s one of those moments that feels like a collective breath of joy—everyone watching, waiting, and then cheering as the lights come to life.
🍩 Churros, But Make Them Festive

And now, the real MVP of Disneyland’s holiday game: specialty flavored churros. Yes, Disney World has its own treats, but Disneyland’s churro creativity is unmatched. Peppermint, pumpkin spice, sugar cookie—you name it, they’ve probably tried it. Honestly, this is one of the few reasons I almost wish I’d stuck with my original plan to head west instead of east. But hey, Disney World was the easy choice for me this year, and I’m still excited!
🎁 East Coast or West Coast—Disney Does Christmas Best
Whether you’re strolling down Main Street in Anaheim or soaking up the magic in Orlando, one thing’s for sure: no one does Christmas like Disney.
The attention to detail, the festive overlays, and the seasonal treats leave little to desire!
