✨ Let’s Talk Military Discounts!

Now that I’ve officially shifted from “just a blogger” to a full‑service travel planner (and yes—I can’t wait to help you plan your most magical vacation!), I want to highlight something that makes my services a little different: my experience navigating military discounts.

Many planners step back from military‑related bookings simply because the process requires the service member to make certain purchases directly, which means planners aren’t able to earn commission on those reservations. Without that built‑in compensation, it can be harder for them to offer their services at no cost.

While I do charge a planning fee, my goal is to help you unlock far more magic—and savings—than you spend. Military offers can open the door to some truly extraordinary value, and I’m here to help you make the most of every bit of it.

🎟️ A Real Example: Disney World Ticket Savings

Let’s look at one of the biggest discounts out there: Walt Disney World’s Military Salute to Service tickets.

  • Standard 4‑day Park Hopper (peak December pricing): $841.52 per person

  • Military Salute to Service 4‑day Park Hopper: $405 per person

That’s almost a 52% discount—just on park tickets. For a family, that adds up fast and can be the difference between “maybe someday” and “we’re going!”

🏰 Shades of Green: A Hidden Gem for Military Families

While tickets are certainly the biggest savings point, there’s another incredible benefit available to those with a military connection: Shades of Green at Walt Disney World.

This beautiful resort is located right in the Magic Kingdom area and is one of the most amazing perks available to eligible military families. One of the things that makes it so special is how room rates are structured—they’re based on rank:

  • Category 1: E1–E6

  • Category 2: E7–E9, O1–O3

  • Category 3: O4 and above

Not only are the room rates fair and accessible, but the resort is tax‑free—and all purchases made on the property are tax‑free as well. When you combine that with ticket savings (and a few Deluxe‑level perks), you’re looking at a truly magical value vacation.

🪪 Understanding Eligibility

Before we dive into planning, it’s important to know which discounts you qualify for. The Salute to Service program is offered in partnership with the Department of Defense, so eligibility rules are set by the Department of Defense. If you ever find yourself frustrated with the qualifications…well, that’s a conversation to take up with the DoD (and I wish you the best of luck!).

Please note: Eligibility requirements are subject to change at any time. Always check with Shades of Green directly for the most up‑to‑date information.

Here are some of the most common eligibility categories:

  • Who: All U.S. military branches, including National Guard

    • Unremarried former spouses married to a service member for at least 20 years while they were on active duty

  • ID: DD Form 1173 or 1173‑1

There are additional eligibility categories, but these are the ones I see most often in my planning work.

🌟 How a Planner (Hi, That’s Me!) Makes This Easier

Now that you know what’s available, you might be wondering: “How does having a planner actually help?”

Here’s what I do for you:

  • Confirm and Clarify Eligibility: I help you understand which discounts you may qualify for and point you toward the correct verification sources.

  • Guide You Through Shades of Green Bookings. I assist with timing, availability, and how this resort fits into your overall vacation strategy.

  • Walk You Through Ticket Purchases. While I can’t purchase Salute to Service tickets for you, I can guide you step‑by‑step so nothing feels confusing.

  • Connect Everything in My Disney Experience. I help link your resort, tickets, MagicBands, and more—so all the tech pieces work together seamlessly.

  • Build a Strategy for Your Park Days  Dining, Lightning Lanes, pacing, priorities—I help you craft a plan that fits your family perfectly.

  • Answer Questions and Calm the Chaos. You get access to my planning brain, my research, and my experience so your trip can unfold with as little stress—and as much magic—as possible.

🪄 Every Magical Story Needs a Guide

Every magical story needs a guide—and I’d be honored to be yours. With the right discounts, the right timing, and the right plan, your military benefits can open the door to a vacation full of wonder.

Let’s start creating your next chapter.  – Jillian
