I know what you’re thinking—“Isn’t that way too early?” But honestly, this is the perfect window. You’re not stressed yet, but the trip is close enough that your brain is already starting to think about what you’ll need. So why not get ahead of the game?

📝 My Packing List Strategy

I use Google Keep to create my packing list for every trip, and I break it down into three main categories:

1. 🎟️ Trip-Specific Essentials

These are the non-negotiables—the things that make or break your trip if forgotten:

  • MagicBands

  • Park tickets

  • Passports or travel IDs

  • Cash or travel money

2. ✈️ Carry-On Must-Haves

These are the items I want with me on the plane or easily accessible:

  • Portable charger

  • Charging cords and blocks

  • Debit cards (I only bring the ones I plan to use—everything else stays locked up at home)

  • In-flight entertainment:

    • Tablet

    • Phone

    • Headphones

3. 🧳 Suitcase Staples

Whether it’s a checked bag or a paid carry-on, this is where the bulk of the magic happens:

  • Outfits: I plan by number of days and special events (like a Christmas party or DisneyBounding looks)

  • Shoes: Always bring at least two pairs—one for serious walking (20,000+ steps a day!) and one breathable pair like sandals

  • Toiletries: Yes, resorts provide some, but if you have sensitive skin or preferences, list them out so nothing gets left behind

  • Trip-Specific Fun: For Disney, this means Loungefly bags and ears! I don’t want to forget them in storage

🧠 Why Start So Early?

Starting early gives me time to adjust. A week before the trip, I pull out the suitcase and start a “vacation pile.” Maybe the weather’s changed—shorts in Minnesota might be a no-go, but they’re perfect for Florida. Having a list means I can pivot without panic.

These lists are a lifesaver, especially when I’m packing for the whole family. They keep me organized, reduce stress, and help make sure nothing gets left behind.

What about you? Do you start packing early or wait until the last minute? What’s your go-to packing hack? I’d love to hear your tips in the comments!
