🏒👑 68 Days to Go!
Day 2 of “This Day in Disney History” Series
Today’s date? It’s a double feature—and both moments are worth celebrating!
🥅 October 2, 1992: Minnesota Goes Hollywood
If you grew up in Minnesota, this one hits home. On October 2, 1992, Disney released The Mighty Ducks—and suddenly, every kid in the Twin Cities wanted to lace up their skates and join District 5.

Sure, Gordon Bombay started off as a hotshot attorney with a chip on his shoulder, but by the end? He was the coach every kid dreamed of. And let’s not forget the most iconic insult to ever come out of a Disney sports movie: “Cake Eaters.”(Edina kids, we love you… but you know it’s true. 😂)
This movie didn’t just entertain—it put Minnesota on the Disney map. And for those of us who grew up here? It was a badge of honor.
It also prompted the franchise that gave me the dream of roller blading through the Mall of America... if you know, you know!
👸 October 2, 2011: Rapunzel Joins the Royal Court
Fast forward 19 years, and we’re across the pond at Kensington Palace. On October 2, 2011, Rapunzel was officially crowned the 10th Disney Princess, surrounded by her royal sisters in a ceremony fit for a fairytale.
Fun fact: Rapunzel is the first hazel-eyed princess in the lineup. (We love a detail that makes her stand out!)
From frying pans to floating lanterns, she’s earned her place—and her coronation was a moment that brought Tangled fans everywhere a little extra joy.
🎉 Two Moments, One Magical Day
Whether you’re a hockey-loving Minnesotan or a Disney Princess devotee, October 2nd has something for you. It’s a reminder that Disney magic shows up in all kinds of ways—from ice rinks to royal ballrooms.
Tomorrow, we’re diving into another milestone—so stay tuned for more magical moments in our countdown to Vacation!
