🎠 75 Days to Go!

Day 5 of Our Eerie Disney Countdown

One of the coolest things about Disney Parks and Resorts is how deeply they commit to storytelling. Every detail—from architecture to background music—helps carry the theme. Most of the time, that means nostalgic charm and whimsical vibes. But every now and then… Disney hugs the line between magical and downright eerie.

Enter: The Boardwalk Inn This deluxe resort at Walt Disney World is themed after turn-of-the-century Atlantic City and Coney Island. Think striped awnings, vintage carnival games, and seaside charm. But tucked into this charming setting is something that might just give you goosebumps.

For this post let’s talk about Nanny Chairs.

Back in the early carousel days, these rides were designed for children. Adults didn’t have benches to sit on, so they were given “Nanny Chairs”—stationary seats placed nearby so they could supervise. Sounds innocent enough, right?

Well… not when you see them.

These chairs—yes, you can sit on them—have faces, arms, and legs carved into their design. Human-like features. Or maybe almost human. They’re part of Disney’s commitment to historical accuracy, but let’s be honest: they’re creeptastic. I haven’t seen them in person yet, but based on the photos? I wouldn’t want to walk past one in the middle of the night.

They’re still part of the Boardwalk Inn’s decor, and unless they’re deemed politically incorrect, they’re probably here to stay. So on my next visit, I’ll be hunting them down… with a flashlight and maybe a buddy.

Have you seen the Nanny Chairs? What do you think—should Disney re-theme them? Or are they just another quirky piece of history that adds to the magic (and mystery)?
