👻 Countdown: 78 Days to Go!

Day Two of Eerie Disney Facts
Okay, this one’s going to be shorter than my usual deep dives—but it’s too fun (and creepy!) not to include in this spooky series. You’ve probably heard whispers about hauntings in the Disney parks, right? Well, one ghostly rumor that keeps popping up is about a not-so-scary spirit named George, who supposedly hangs out on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Magic Kingdom.
So… who is George?
Legend has it that during the ride’s construction, a welder named George tragically died. The details are fuzzy—some say a beam fell on him, others claim he fell during work on the burning city scene. However it happened, George’s story didn’t end there. Despite the tragedy, he’s said to be anything but malicious. In fact, he’s kind of a prankster.
Fun for us? Sure.Fun for cast members? Not so much.
To keep George happy (and the ride running smoothly), cast members reportedly greet him each day with a “Good morning, George” when opening the ride, and a “Good night, George” when closing it down. Skip the ritual, and you might be in for a day of technical hiccups and mysterious mischief.
Here are a few eerie extras I uncovered while researching George:

🗝️ George’s Door: Near the jail scene—you know, where the clever pup keeps the keys just out of reach—there’s a door that opens on its own so often, it’s earned the nickname “George’s Door.”
🔥 George’s Tower: Located in the burning city scene. If the light in the tower is on, it’s said George might be present. And if both the tower light is on and the door is open? Buckle up—rumor has it a major malfunction could be on the way.
Now, I’ve always chalked up the ride’s quirks to Disney magic. But after learning all this? Next trip, I’ll be watching a little more closely. And who knows—maybe George and I will cross paths.
How about you? Have you had an out of this world experience with George?
